Fall Essentials

With the frequency I've been at airports lately, I've had plenty of time to catch up on my Fall fashion trends. So far I've covered menswear-as-womenswear and the varsity jacket, but there are some other major trends I've seen as well: gray acid wash, houndstooth, rust, mustard, sapphire and kelly green. Here are some of my favorite picks for the upcoming season!

Clockwise from the top left: Distressed Five Pocket Skinny Jean from GoJane, $29.40; Black Houndstooth Crewneck Bodysuit by Stella McCartney, $1,195; Moss Girls Long Sleeve Sweater by Hurley, $52; Ruffled Dot Blouse by Banana Republic, $79.50; Traisie pump by Steve Madden, $89.95; Checkmate Sweater Tank by RACHEL Rachel Roy, $59, also seen here.

Dot, Dot, What a Girl I've Got

There are few things I love more than polka dots and a romper. A couple weeks ago as I was perusing through Topshop in Soho, I found the most gorgeous tan and sapphire halter romper that I decided I had to have it! And here it is for your viewing pleasure!

Romper by Topshop, $100; Gilla sandals by Boutique 9 from Bloomingdales, $99; vintage watch from the 80s via my Mom.

Happy Sunday!

Stranded!

My general philosophy about current events is a combination of ignorance is bliss and if it's important enough I'll hear about it. Now, if you would have asked me ten days ago if I thought by leaving New York to go on vacation I would miss two earthquakes and a hurricane I probably would have laughed in your face. Remaining true to my philosophy, yesterday I called my friend Olivia to wish her a happy 21st birthday and she in turn told me that a hurricane by the name of Irene was headed straight to New York City and that certain areas were being evacuated! I spent a total of four and a half hours on hold with American Airlines to rebook my canceled flight for Sunday and still didn't get through until I called back this morning! Now I don't fly out until Thursday morning, having extended my eleven day vacation into a two week one.

So far the SoCal leg of my vacation has been amazing, days at the beach, barbecues, seeing a friend in Hollywood, and shopping in Melrose and now I have five more days of the same! While I was on hold yesterday with the airline, I was window shopping in Laguna Beach and wandered into a boutique named Muse. Ironically enough their other location is in Edmonds, the town I'm from near Seattle. Anyway,  I stumbled upon a dress that had to have been made for me. It's red, white and blue, short, strapless and the only one left was in my size. Unfortunately, I had to pass because the price wasn't meant for me, $108 isn't exactly budget friendly to my extended vacation paycheck. I did manage to grab the designer's name, Judith March, so I could share this amazing dress (and one other) with all of you!

From left to right: Red Dot Strapless with Navy Embroidered Bow, the one I initially fell in love with and the Blue Polka Dot Three Ruffles Bodice and Orange Piping, my new favorite.

Keeping everyone back East in my thoughts! Stay safe!

Lazy Days

Well, well, well. I was doing SO well there for a minute! I think I posted on my blog every weekday for almost 3 weeks! Then, vacation struck. I moved to New York about 9 and a 1/2 months ago and Thursday was the first time I had been back home to Seattle! Since then I've spent my days catching up with all my friends and family. I went to some of my favorite places and did some of my favorite things including shopping at Goodwill, eating at Portage Bay Cafe, the Sky City restaurant at the Space Needle and Dick's, going on the monorail and Ride the Ducks, and drinking at the Cha Cha and Shorty's. Basically, this post is serving as my excuse for not posting in over a week and promising to be a little more consistent as I leave Seattle for SoCal, with my days being spent at the beach rather than constantly running around the greater Seattle area. I hope all is well with all of you and as a final attempt to right this blogging wrong here is my outfit from Friday!

On me: Denim vest by Levis with distress done by yours truly, patch on back by Obey, dress by Material Girl, tights by Target, shoes by Rocket Dog, bracelet and ring from Forever 21.

His & Hers: Leopard Edition

Welcome to the first edition of His & Hers! The handsome young man standing next to me is my friend DeMario! He's a coworker turned close friend and we've decided to start making Fridays here on my blog a day where we share the female version of an outfit along with the male interpretation. This week our inspiration sprouted from our mutual love of leopard print and my new favorite color, kelly green.

On DeMario: Sunglasses from Urban Outfitters, $24, tank top by TOPMAN, $12; black pants turned shorts by H&M, leopard boat shoes by Sperry Top-Sider. On me: Taupe pearl necklace by Forever 21, $8; Checkmate Sweater Tank by RACHEL Rachel Roy, $59; Leopard Print Pencil Skirt by Charter Club, $59; black patent pumps by Material Girl, $24.

Cape Cod

My first Fall in New York City is quickly approaching and my hunt for the perfect light jacket is officially on. While I still am in love with the idea of finding a varsity jacket, a cape coat seems like an excellent option as well. The ones I found incorporate some of my favorite things: leopard, art nouveau style graphics and hearts.

Lizzie Cape Coat by Wren, $675; Vintage 1960s Art Nouveau Woodland Cape Coat from gogovintage, $160; Jacquard Cape by Betsey Johnson, $250.

Hope you had an amazing Wednesday!

Sea Legs

Since I had this past weekend off, Sunday was spent getting my bedroom a little more organized because not only does it double as my workroom and but my friend Allie is staying with me in my room for the next couple months as she interns with Vanity Fair. But of course after that was said and done we headed out to Williamsburg to meet some friends at Sea, a delicious Thai restaurant that I've heard many of my coworkers rave about. In honor of the occasion, I wore this chunky coral necklace I had purchased the day prior in Soho and paired it with a simple blue and white striped dress.

Combat Baby

By some miracle, I got this past weekend off from work so I made sure I spent it doing what I love best: shopping, drinking, eating and sleeping. Suffice it to say, this was a very expensive weekend but I'm considering it a belated birthday present to myself! My weekend was kicked off Friday night by a trip to Blockheads for burritos and $4 margaritas with Allie. Saturday was sort of a lazy day and we didn't head out to the city until around 5 for some shopping in Soho, which is where my outfit made an appearance along with my favorite pair of sunglasses!

We Only Said Goodbye With Words

I'm not a person who watches TV or reads any newspaper or news website, so it was through the grapevine that I learned of Amy Winehouse's death. As a huge fan of the cat-eye myself as well as her fifties and sixties clothing, I really identified with her style. It wasn't until yesterday when I was playing the Back to Black album on repeat that I realized this was her last and final album. Below is my Amy Winehouse inspired look in her honor.

Watercolor Days

As I left my lovely little Brooklyn neighborhood this morning headed to the gym (yes I know, in this outfit!) Allie took photos of me for my first outfit post. I bought this dress last Summer when I was trying to define my signature style as only wearing red, white and blue. While that idea didn't stick, this dress has made it past the last few donation cuts into my current wardrobe. It was the perfect outfit for today's slightly muggy New York Summer day!

Anhedonia

Anhedonia was the working title of arguably Woody Allen's most famous romantic comedy, Annie Hall. Basically it means the inability to experience pleasure from normally pleasurable life events, which sums up a lot of what Annie Hall is about. Anyway, I've actually had time to flip through my fashion magazines and the Fall previews are showing so many Annie Hall menswear-as-womenswear inspired trends I had to write a little something about it! And also because we all know I have a small obsession with anything Woody Allen related.

B&W

When I think of black and white I usually think of two things: Beetlejuice and I Love Lucy. Such a random association, I know. One of my all time favorite things in the world is black and white stripes and in the past couple days I've found so many cute things that I just had to share them!

Clockwise from top left: Motel Striped Jordan Jean by Fred Flare, $104; Ella Striped Peplum Tee by Alice + Olivia, $220; LondonCoat by EmersonMade, Available in the Fall; Recital Farrah Clutch by Kate Spade, $375.

Happy August!
